Mutualist Blog: Free Market Anti-Capitalism

To dissolve, submerge, and cause to disappear the political or governmental system in the economic system by reducing, simplifying, decentralizing and suppressing, one after another, all the wheels of this great machine, which is called the Government or the State. --Proudhon, General Idea of the Revolution

Only fools use a dictionary definition to explain a complex ideology or theory. If all we needed was a dictionary why do we have courses in political science and sociology? The correct way to understand the meaning of a concept is to examine what the theorists and practitioners of a theory or ideology said about their theory or ideology.

By the way, I just checked in my OED and guess what? This is its definition of socialism...

"a theory... which advocates the ownership and control of the means of production... BY THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE and their administration or distribution in the INTERESTS OF ALL." (my emphasis)

The dictionaries that Kaka whateverhismnamewas were all US and biased - basically propaganda, whereas the OED sticks to the original and true definition.

Interesting. And the theory of Tucker et al was that a regime of free competition would socialize the *benefits* of the means of production.
